A little about Malbec
Wine, dogs, and a beautiful sunset....what more could one ask for on a holiday weekend?!
Before we kick off the festivities, let’s talk about Malbec!
~ This grape is believed to have originated in SW France around the region of Cahors.
~ It prefers limestone soils and suffers easily from disease and rot, making it challenging to grow in certain climates.
~ Malbec was popular in Bordeaux until the winter freeze of 1956, killing many of its plantings. They re-planted to Merlot.
~ Where it does thrive, Malbec provides a plethora of aromatics. Think blackberry, plums, prunes, chocolate, florals, black pepper and tobacco...sounds good, right?!
~ Argentina has proven their ability to grow stunning Malbec and it has become their flagship varietal.
Now...let’s head back to California, Napa Valley to be exact!
In my glass ~ Patland Estate Vineyards 2016 Reserve Malbec. Sourced from the famed Stagecoach Vineyards of Napa Valley and their very own Estate terraced vineyards high atop Atlas Peak. This Malbec leaps out of the glass with rose florals, black and Bing cherries, raspberries, figs, chocolate and baking spices. This is one I find myself craving!
How will you be celebrating this holiday weekend? Perhaps with some Malbec?! Cheers wine lovers! 🍷
