Pack your bags - we are Pasadena Bound!

When I lived in LA, it felt like Pasadena was a world away, even though it’s only 11 miles from downtown LA! Now, when we visit Southern California, we love to stay there - and here’s why. One, it’s close to LA, making it very convenient if you want to sightsee but far enough away that you don’t have to deal with the unpleasantries that come with staying in a big city. Two, it has a lovely historic downtown that is easy to walk around on foot. Three, since it’s known as the city of roses, you can expect gardens everywhere!

This past visit, we stayed with friends who have lived in Pasadena for several years (and its always great to get the locals recs)! We were also celebrating my birthday, which meant heading out to a couple of special dinner and drink spots.

With so much to do in the Los Angeles region, Pasadena is the perfect town to stay and explore California’s rich heritage. Here are my top recommendations that can’t be missed when visiting Pasadena!

This is a moderately easy hike in the San Gabriel Mountains, part of the Angeles National Forest. It’s located in Altadena and makes you feel like your actually in the woods while hiking…a far cry from the sun-drenched trails of Runyon Canyon in West Hollywood. It’s family and dog friendly, only around 2.5 miles in and out, and you get a waterfall view half way!

#2 Check out a sporting event at the Rose Bowl or g

o to a Dodgers Game

I have to tell you, even as a Bay Area gal, there is something magical about going to a Dodgers Game! Maybe it’s the celebrity sightings, maybe it’s the Dodger Dogs, or maybe it’s the always perfect weather. The third oldest MLB stadium never disappoints with its unique and picturesque setting. Whatever it is, you can’t go to a game without becoming a fan!

This historic 5-Star hotel exudes an old Hollywood vibe in every sense. From the grand architecture (check out the website for the full effect) to the enchanting courtyard, it’s a place I will will go back to time and time again. One of my tips - if you are unable to book a stay at this lux hotel, but like the finer things in life, have dinner and drinks at the restaurants or book a spa experience. We shared a bottle of champagne at the Tap Room, which has gorgeous views of the sprawling estate and LA.

Pasadena is rich with history. One of the best ways to experience it is by walking around town. With shopping, world class restaurants, and an endless list of art and entertainment events, there is something for everyone here!

#5 Visit the Huntington

This piece of paradise is home to a library, museum, and botanical gardens. Since opening in 1928, it has served as a non-profit collections-based institute for the public and scholars alike. If you are looking to wander around, this is your place! Just the botanical gardens took us a few hours to experience. There are also casual dining options to grab a bite or a drink while exploring the expansive property.

I added links to each of these fabulous experiences and hope you enjoyed visiting Pasadena through my eyes! Travel will open you up to so many new experiences - and Pasadena offers the perfect blend of old and new cultures. Who is ready to go with me?!!
